Geothermal heat pumps (GHPs) are “the most energy efficient, environmentally clean, and cost effective HVAC systems available.” Geothermal (ground source) heating systems tap into the constant temperature of the Earth just a few feet below the surface, providing heating, air conditioning, and hot water for homes and businesses.

The Pacific Northwest has ideal geology and ground temperatures for Geothermal systems, cleanly reducing energy consumption up to 80%. Using the constant temperature of the Earth as a low-temperature renewable source of energy, heat is transferred to and from the home providing year round comfort.

Geothermal systems have decades of proven efficiency and environmental savings. The first commercial application was installed in Portland, Oregon way back in 1946. With fuel prices volatility and environmental concerns abound, Geothermal installations are increasing rapidly nationwide as an attractive alternative for homeowners and businesses.

The Northwest GeoExchange is an Oregon non-profit dedicated to educating consumers on the benefits of GHP technology; providing resources and expertise to those interested in pursuing a system of their own.
