Northwest GeoExchange is committed to supporting education and awareness around high‑performance geothermal technologies. As part of that mission, we are highlighting an Electrify Now “Go Electric!” webinar that provides a clear, accessible overview of geothermal heat pump (GHP) systems and their role in delivering efficient, low‑carbon heating and cooling.
This presentation explains how geothermal heat pumps utilize the stable temperatures of the shallow earth to provide highly efficient year‑round comfort. By transferring heat to and from the ground—rather than generating it through combustion or relying solely on outdoor air—GHPs can reduce energy consumption by up to 44% compared to air‑source heat pumps and up to 72% compared to conventional HVAC systems. The webinar also outlines the long‑term economic benefits of geothermal systems, including system longevity, operational stability, and typical payback periods of five to ten years.
Panelists discuss key considerations for determining whether a property is a strong candidate for geothermal, including climate, soil conditions, available land area, and project goals. Additional topics include installation costs, available incentives, system lifespan, and the broader role geothermal technologies can play in strengthening the electrical grid and supporting regional decarbonization efforts.
The session features insights from experienced industry professionals, including Nick Cabianca, General Manager of Geonomic Developments and a member of the Northwest GeoExchange Board of Directors, alongside leaders from Electrify Now, Aztech Geothermal, and the New Buildings Institute.
